Mulk Raj Anand was a prolific Indo-Anglian writer. His phenomenally creative writings show obtrusive realities of the then or rather traditional Indian caste system. The deep perspicacity, with which he portrays the real picture of the then Indian society, shows the grief of the disconsolate and impecunious ruck. He is among the three greatest novelists, along with Raja Rao and R.K Narayan who were called the famous trio in the 1940s. Work of these three novelists added a new dimension to the Indian fiction writing. Anand was committed to expose social injustice, economic exploitation and the plight of the suppressed caste and class in India. He was admired and esteemed as being a man of letters. The only thing that makes him unique is the vivid and realistic description of caste system in Indian society. His works are not a result of imagination but comes out from the real life experiences that he had. The questioning of the established ideas and prejudices prevalent in the society has been portrayed through the novel Untouchable. The descriptions and observation of the real life of an untouchable has been described poignantly in the novel through discreet detail.

Keywords: caste, society, untouchable, downtrodden, ordinary, victimisation, discrimination, constitution, reformer, existence, cleanness, situation, scavenger, marginalized, exploitation, constraint, modern, honour, slavery, orient, upper-caste, equality, traditional etc.
