This article intends to provide a summary of the highlights of the heroines of Jane Austen, with some attempt to relate them to each other. The initial work, as might be expected, focussed on proving that Jane Austen was aware of the larger political and social issues of her time, and that her opinions on these issues are expressed through an ironic subtext. A number of excellent and well-known characters have found it fruitful to study, socially and psychologically, the structure and influence of gender relations that were part of the environment in which Austen wrote. Jane Austen’s heroines are all in the same state of life. Their hearts are in a state of hope, expectation and competition, when solidarity with other women could be fatal. As society forbids it, the heroines cannot openly slide towards their goal (marriage). They therefore develop strategies to reach it.his article intends to provide a summary of the highlights of the heroines of Jane Austen, with some attempt to relate them to each other.
