Kiran Desai’s The Inheritance of Loss consists largely of diasporic dimensions. It is a geographically divided novel; in a moldering house in the foothills of the Himalayas. The novel heralds Kiran Desai as one of the insightful novelists. She illuminates the pain of exile and the ambiguities of Post-colonialism with a tapestry of colorful characters. The novel is further a story of depth and emotion, hilarity and imagination, of love, family and loss. It is a novel of shifting points of view. It moves from one character to another, from one emotion or sense impression to the next, its narrative form acting out the sense of dislocation which is its theme.Kiran Desai’s The Inheritance of Loss consists largely of diasporic dimensions.
