The aim of the present study as part of Ph. D. thesis is to design tasks to develop English communication skills to the first year Diploma Students of Civil engineering at MANUU Polytechnic, Bangalore. The tasks are designed using Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence theory (1993) which has nine multiple intelligences. According to this theory, if a teacher knows the intelligences of his/her students, prepares tasks based on their intelligences and teaches the students then, the learning will take place effectively. In other words, each individual learner is from different socio, economic and cultural back grounds and having different interests and ways of learning a language, and their learning needs must be met by a suitable approach. To experiment this, the thirty learners’ multiple intelligences are tested and taught using freely available you tube videos of the famous civil engineering constructions of the world to create interest and motivate among them and also to communicate in academic and professional settings. After this, data are analyzed and findings are gathered through oral interviews and an observation, and finally suggestions are offered.teaches the students then, the learning will take place effectively.
