This paper is a modest attempt on the topic Content-Based teaching which is closely related to content analysis and the process of analyzing linguistics constructions into independent meaning and status. Accordingly General English is with chief content of literature and it is taught at the university levels in methods and changed as last 50 years. The ghost of Macaulay’s model of teaching of 1835 is still found haunting the academic circles. However there has been a creative change in teaching General English in the creation of new genre known as English for Specified Purpose (ESP). The content of ESP is mostly related to linguistics. Technical English is taught to professional students with the Language Laboratory to that level that they will be forgetful of foreignness of English. It is to empower them to do LSRW skills as individually as possible. The chief objective is to make English as science language. Phonetics, etymology and philology are already there in scientific design and development but it will be like putting a round plug into a square hole. English with its global recognition is flexible to be acquired successfully. The professional students will get training to use English in human life situations while following the task based syllabus. The content of the ESP is to be enhanced to the required standard of today. The Tamil medium students are to be provided with special coaching by way of their rehabilitation. The models are to be designed covering the four skills (LSRW) for the professional students irrespective of their medium of instruction and this paper is a detailed study of the various methods in acquisition of English language for Specific Purposes.
