Orhan Pamuk is a Turkish Nobel Laureate whose tales of the Turkish past have caught the world attention. As a novelist who loves to dabble in history of his country, Pamuk’s texts celebrate the country’s past and the glory and the pain that is often attached to the memories of a fallen empire. The sense of loss, the agony of the forgotten, and the quest for missed meanings and opportunities are recurrent themes in his writing. This paper looks at his narratives of loss and the lost and tries to decipher the reason and use of this archetype and how it supplements and enriches his narratives.rhan Pamuk is a Turkish Nobel Laureate whose tales of the Turkish past have caught the world attention.
